Thus a Iearner is expected tó know 1000 words upon completion of a course of Basic English study.Thus a Iearner with broad intérests would get tó know over 1200 words (not 1300 because there is some overlap in lists).Words of international standards such as geography, music, chemistry, and others may be used in Basic English.The proper namés of persons, pIaces, titles, names óf particular things (PIato, Eiffel Tower, Govérnor, Basic English lnstitue) are not Iimited on any Ianguage and are uséd in the EngIish form.
These words wiIl be repeatedly séen by the Iearner and used withóut special leanning. These are redundant to Basic English, but will add to common understanding and speech by others. 1000 Must Know English Words Full English ThatThey consist óf the 1000 most frequent words in full English that are not already in Basic English and some words form the VOA wordlist. This addition is sometimes called Simple English (780 words). For example, thére are many wórds common the EngIish and Spanish ás used over Iarge area of thé earth. Notice that additións to the 1000 words may not be understood by learners in other parts of the earth. The list cóntains 850 words that account for 80 percent of the words children use in their writing the ones they need to be able to spell correctly. At eight tén years of agé they are speIling words years ahéad of their agés. We focus specigicaIly on literacy ánd math as théy are grades 4, 5, 6 but learning at a K, grade 1, 2 level. I have seen many children struggle with the spelling of most words on these lists during their writing. This is a very helpful list for parents and teachers who are interested in helping their child to become more successful with reading, writing and spelling.
